Mrs Anandhi Sooriyapragasam is a pioneering figure in the realm of Tamil broadcasting, having been the first Tamil woman to join the esteemed BBC Tamil service. Her tenure at the BBC spanned from 1970, during which time she was regarded as the preeminent voice of Tamil radio. This was a particularly significant period, as Sri Lanka lacked any radio stations, and the Tamil community relied heavily on the BBC Tamil service for news and information. 

Mrs Sooriyapragasam is a multifaceted talent, having served as a news reader, program presenter, and prominent journalist. She is widely regarded as an influential figure, having had the rare opportunity to meet with LTTE supremo Mr Prabakaran, during which he personally prepared and served her a meal. Mrs Sooriyapragasam is affectionately known as "Anandai Acca" among Tamil, who live all over  the world.
